Image CANADA’S WORLD CUP BOBSLEIGH AND SKELETON TEAMS COMPLETE FIRST HALF OF SEASON WITH 12 MEDALS

December 31, 2006, TORONTO: Canada’s Bobsleigh and Skeleton teams finished the first half of the season on the World Cup circuit with 12 medals and 26 top ten finishes.

Canada’s Jeff Pain launched the season with a gold medal in men’s Skeleton at the Visa Calgary World Cup. Teammate Jon Montgomery earned the bronze in the same event. Paul Boehm was fourth and Kelly Forbes rounded out the top ten. Pain impressed again by winning a silver medal at the second race of the season in Park City and then a fourth at the race in Lake Placid, where Paul Boehm finished tenth.

In women’s Skeleton, Michelle Kelly earned a bronze medal and fourth place in Park City and Lake Placid respectively. Lindsay Alcock confirmed her sliding prowess by securing a fourth place rank at both the Visa Calgary World Cup and World Cup in Park City. Canada’s Carla Pavan had three consistent races, finishing fifth in Calgary, seventh in Park City, and fourth in Lake Placid. In her first year on the World Cup circuit team rookie Amy Gough had two top ten finishes.

In men’s Bobsleigh Pierre Lueders teamed up with Lascelles Brown in the 2-man event to clinch bronze in all three races. David Bissett and Ken Kotyk joined Brown and Lueders in the 4-man event to earn a bronze at both the Visa Calgary World Cup and World Cup in Park City. The 4-man team placed fourth at the race in Lake Placid.

Image Women’s Bobsleigh veteran Helen Upperton, joined with Jaime Cruickshank to finish fourth at the World Cup in Calgary and claim silver in Lake Placid. Upperton raced with Jenny Ciochetti in Park City and earned a bronze medal.

The Canadian team finished the first half of the season on the podium in the team event in Lake Placid. Michelle Kelly, Jeff Pain, Helen Upperton, Shelley-Ann Brown, Pierre Lueders and David Bissett joined forces to claim bronze.

Canada’s World Cup Skeleton and Bobsleigh teams will resume their competitive season in January in Europe.

Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton is the governing body responsible for administrating and developing the sports of Skeleton and Bobsleigh in Canada. The organization recruits, develops and supports Skeleton and Bobsleigh athletes in the pursuit of Olympic and World Championship medals.
